Footnote: Judo Associations and Clubs who act as state controlling bodies in their respective areas are members of PJM and shall be known as Affiliates and other members may join as Associates. Affiliates are represented by four Council members who attend meetings and help in the activities of the PJM. The PJM administration is by an executive board whose members are elected by the Council members from candidates proposed by the State Affiliates. A full time Executive Secretary sees to the daily affairs of the PJM.

The PJM is also a member of the Olympic Sports Council (OCM) of Malaysia and promotes Judo in the country. This includes coordinating with the government National Sports Council (NSC) whose financial and other support is most welcome in all sports bodies.

The association has been formed by a group of dedicated Black Belt judokas, some of whom are highly ranked in the country. All Judo Black Belts and any other Judokas are welcome to participate in the association to promote Judo further. Among its aim is to provide technical knowledge of Judo, and to help start Judo Dojos wherever there are interested parties in any areas. It s hoped that Judo Black Belts having attained the status, will willingly impart their experience and volunteer to train new Judokas who may be the future champions to represent the states and Malaysia. To this end, the MJBA will endeavor to provide Judogis and training mats at very reasonable cost and conduct grading promotion if necessary. The MJBA will be able to help in the start-up of judo clubs in terms of government registration pertaining to rules and regulations as well as help to draft new Constitution for any club or association.

Footnote: The SJC is Malaysia’s first and premier Judo club, founded on October 25th 1951. From the SJC emerged the many Judokas who helped to start Judo clubs in other areas of the country. The founder of SJC, Kpt. (retired) Khor Ghoon Hoe, was also one of the original founders of the Judo movement in Malaysia. Sadly, Mr. Khor, an 8th Dan Black Belt holder, the highest Judo ranking in the country at the time of his demise, passed away on October 1999, having dedicated his whole life to Judo. His legacy is the many practicing Judokas of today and Mr. Khor certainly merits being known as the “Father of Judo” in Malaysia. His colleagues Mr. Wong Sik Pui and Mr. Choy Wai Kong, both 6th Dan Black Belts are still involved with Judo.

Footnote: The Ding Martial Art Gym is exactly what its name implies, a center of excellence where there are many martial arts activities to learn, including Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu, Brasilian Jujitsu, Taekwondo, and many others. Each art is taught by qualified Masters (Senseis) in their respective arts.

The Judo classes are conducted under the auspices of the Malaysia Judo Black Belt Association (MJBA). Many Black belt instructors are on hand to provide the necessary expertise to take a beginner or advance student through the various aspects of Judo training. Chief Instructor Master Choy Wai Kong, 6th Dan and Technical Adviser Master Wong Sik Poi, 6th Dan, are well qualified to impart their knowledge and discipline to the students. The training Dojo area is clean and spacious and changing toilets are available. Children and adults, males and females are welcome to join the Judo class. Current training is conducted every Saturday (4.00 pm - 6.00 pm).

Foreword: A Judo training Dojo has been established in Klang under the auspices of the Malaysia Judo Black Belt Association (MJBA). The ITSP building where the Dojo is located on the 2nd floor, also conveniently houses a computer training center where kids of all ages may study about computers, and take up Judo as a discipline. The Chief Judo Instructor is Master Toh Kek Keong, 6th Dan, a well known and qualified Judo master. All are welcome to join and learn the gentle art of self-defence, as well build self confidence and enjoy good health through Judo exercise. Master Toh is very dedicated to the promotion of Judo and students will benefit from his experience. Judo classes are currently being conducted as follows:

Footnote: The JAFT may be considered the most active Judo club professionally run by 7th Dan Sensei and Mahaguru Mr. Goh Thong Mong and his son, David. The senior Sensei Goh has indeed devoted his whole life in the promotion of Judo, and runs many Judo clubs in schools, as well as the YMCA Judo club (Kuala Lumpur). Continuing in the tradition of his father, son David has help to set up the JAFT Judo Academy. Judo teams, both seniors and juniors from JAFT, have often emerged as champions in the annual National Judo Contest.

Footnote: Mr. Raymond is an excellent sportsman who has vast experience from his Judo school days at the YMCA Kuala Lumpur, where he was taught by Sensei Goh Thong Mong. Mr. Raymond has recently started a small Judo Dojo at his home while the main BM Judo club is run at a school nearby. Mr. Raymond is also quite well known around the Penang area, providing a physio massage service to improve one’s health or recovery from injuries or surgeries.

Footnote: The Pahang Judo Association was formed in the year 2006 by a dedicated Judoka, Mr Khoo Teng Khoon, a businessman. Master Khoo formerly trained under Master Goh Thong Mong 7th Dan, and currently President of the Federal Territory Judo Association. In a short space of time Master Khoo has achieved much, with demonstations in martial arts at shopping complex, and there are now more than 30 judokas training at the Dojo in Kuantan. The PJA judokas have achieved grades up to Orange belts and has a senior Blue Belt judoka from Melaka Judo Association, to help in the training and running the Dojo. Footnote: Coach Lee Wing Fook has almost single handedly run the Judo club by volunteering his time and effort to train Judokas. Coach Lee’s efforts has paid off with his Judokas winning at National level Judo championships and being selected for national centralised training to represent the country.

Footnote: The MSJA is fortunate to have a team of dedicated Judo senseis to conduct training sessions. The NSJA has also given us the highest rated IJF referee in Mr. Lee Khim Seng with an “A” licence. The President of NSJA is the well-known former sportsman elite and current politician and State Assemblyman, Datuk Wira Gan Boon Leong, whose support of various sports association including Judo, is legendary. One only has to shake hands with Datuk Wira Gan, to know his “grip” is real.

Footnote: The JBJA has a colourful character in Mr. Patrick Nathan who is involved not only in Judo, but other sports bodies such as Taekwondo. A dedicated man, Mr. Patrick’s involvement with Judo goes back a long way, and could be said to be a pioneer during those early days. Another keen Judoka associated with the JBJA is Encik Mat Saher Haji Rashid, who is still practicing Judo and recently obtained his Black Belt in year 2000 at a ripe age of 70 years old. Just goes to show that Judo will keep a person really fighting fit and healthy.

Footnote: The SJA (Sabah) although from East Malaysia, has always given their support, especially in attending the PJM meetings which involve a high expense in travel. Footnote: The SJA (Sarawak) from another state of East Malaysia, faces the same problem of travel to participate in the PJM activities. Nonetheless, with dedication and keen effort from the officials and team Judokas, the SJA (Sarawak) has produced Judo champions in the form of the well known Bong brother and sister. Both siblings have represented Malaysia at international Judo Championships and brought honours to the country by winning medals.

Footnote: Fearsome competitors would be an apt description for the ATM (The Arm Forces) Judo team, whenever participating in local Judo championships including the National Judo Contest. Many top Judokas representing the country has been produced by the ATM training program. Footnote: Another government body, the Royal Custom Judo Club has been providing Judo training for their staff and previously participated in all PJM activities. It appears to continue the Judo tradition and with the help of sensei Dr. Sai, new judokas are being trained.
